TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – More than 1,000 Toledo Edison customers were without power Tuesday morning after equipment from a tree service hit a power line.
The incident happened in the 3300 block of Douglas on Tuesday. Workers with a tree service told 13 Action News at the scene a worker was trimming trees when the equipment malfunctioned and touched a power line, causing the equipment to catch fire.
The worker who was in the bucket at the time is okay and was able to walk himself to the ambulance to get checked out.
The incident sparked power outages in the area. A Toledo Edison website update said the company needs to deploy additional resources to restore power due to the complexity of the issue. An expected restoration time was originally listed at 1 p.m., but the majority of those customers had their power restored before noon.
