Sylvania Schools to name new superintendent

Current Superintendent Veronica Motley plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year, according to the district.

SYLVANIA, Ohio — The Sylvania Board of Education plans to vote Nov. 10 on appointing Assistant Superintendent Tim Zieroff as the district’s next superintendent during the board’s regular meeting.

Zieroff would succeed Superintendent Veronica Motley, who the district said plans to retire July 31, 2026, after six years leading Sylvania Schools. Motley joined the district in 2020.

The district said Zieroff has 28 years of experience in education, including the past 15 in Sylvania Schools. Before joining the district, he worked as a teacher, athletic director and dean of students. Within Sylvania Schools, he served as assistant principal and principal at Arbor Hills Junior High before becoming assistant superintendent nine years ago, the district said.

“Tim has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and commitment to the Sylvania Schools community,” Board of Education president Julie Hoffman said. “His background in both classroom instruction and district leadership provides the experience necessary to guide our schools into the future.”

Motley said she has “complete confidence” in Zieroff to serve as the district’s next superintendent.

“His proven commitment to continuous improvement and dedication to the district’s long-standing tradition of excellence are evident in every aspect of his service to our schools and community,” Motley said. “Mr. Zieroff leads with integrity, purpose, and a student-centered focus that exemplifies the very best of Sylvania.”

“It is an honor to serve the community I call home,” Zieroff said. “I look forward to working together with our dedicated teachers, staff, families, and community partners to continue building on the excellence of Sylvania Schools and ensuring that every student is prepared for success.”

If approved, Zieroff’s contract as superintendent will begin Aug. 1, 2026.
