Secret Service raid in Toledo leads to child pornography arrest

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Authorities charged a man for alleged receipt and distribution of child pornography just days after a Secret Service raid in Toledo. Court records show Trenton Schneider was charged on April 14 and he was arrested on April 15.

Federal investigators allege Schneider admitted to using to viewing and downloading child pornography while authorities were searching his home.

Charging documents said the U.S. Secret Service was investigating a BitTorrent network for offenders sharing child porn in February. A device with an IP address that tracked back to Toledo was identified as having files relevant to child porn investigations. Authorities were able to review some of the files and found it contained graphic videos showing adults sexually assaulting children of various ages, including one as young as approximately 3.

Multiple agencies helped Secret Service execute a search warrant at a home on Utah Street in Toledo on April 4. During the investigation, federal investigators allege Schneider admitted to using a BitTorrent peer-to-peer system and admitted to viewing child porn since he was 20.

He said he downloaded child pornography to a cell phone and a thumb drive, which he had in his wallet at the time and handed it over to police, the charging documents said. The man allegedly told investigators at the scene he never had any hands-on contact with a minor, but admitted to developing an attraction to kids.

“Schneider further admitted to having an attraction to younger children, claiming that it was a recent development and that he had gone down a ‘rabbit hole’ from viewing legal pornography to downloading child pornography,” the charging documents read.

The documents also said that he lived with several other people, including minors who are not his children. Workers with Lucas County Children Services interviewed them and they all said they had not been abused by Schneider.

Children Services discussed “deplorable” conditions at the home and told the mother of the children to clean the house. Three days after the raid, the mother of the children said Schneider was living at the home once again, the charging documents read.

Schneider is scheduled to face a judge on April 16.
