One arrested following pursuit in vehicle with four flat tires

The chase was initiated by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and traveled through Lucas County.

MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — One person was taken into custody in southeast Michigan early Tuesday after leading law enforcement on a vehicle chase, all while having four flat tires.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that it received a call from the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office around 2:33 a.m., which said it had terminated a pursuit at the state line. The suspect vehicle, which the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office had initially attempted to stop for an alleged traffic violation, had all four tires flattened.

Authorities did not specify if the tires had become flattened during or before the pursuit was initiated.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office picked up the pursuit at Telegraph and Sterns Road in Bedford Township after a deputy saw a vehicle traveling north on Telegraph with “sparks coming from its wheels.”

The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and continued north, resulting in a pursuit at speeds between 33 mph and 53 mph, the sheriff’s office said.

The pursuit came to an end near Telegraph Road and Dean Road when the vehicle stopped due to a mechanical failure. The sheriff’s office then took the driver – the only occupant of the vehicle – into custody in what authorities described as “without incident.”

The suspect, whose name was held pending arraignment, was jailed in Monroe County on a count of Fleeing and Eluding.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 734-240-7732.
