Lucas County Canine Care & Control seeks dog food donations to reopen Pet Food Pantry and meet an urgent need

Lucas County Canine Care & Control is asking for dry dog food donations to restock and reopen its Pet Food Pantry to help keep pets and families together.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County Canine Care & Control is asking the community to help restock its Pet Food Pantry, which supports local pet owners facing financial hardship.

The program, which provides free dog food to families in need, has been temporarily closed while the agency transitioned to its new facility on Monroe Street. Shelves were cleared during the move, and the pantry cannot reopen until supplies are replenished.

LC4 leaders say demand for the service has grown as recent reductions in SNAP benefits add strain to households across northwest Ohio. The pantry helps prevent owners from having to surrender their pets due to financial challenges.

“We see firsthand how much comfort and stability pets provide. No one should ever face surrendering their dog simply because they’ve fallen on hard times,” LC4 Interim Director Terra Bundy said in a press release Monday. “This pantry keeps families together and right now, we truly need our community’s help to continue that mission.”

Donations of dry dog food can be dropped off at Lucas County Canine Care & Control, 1301 Monroe St. in downtown Toledo. All brands, flavors and types of dry food are accepted.

“Every bag, big or small, makes a direct impact on families and pets in our community,” LC4 said.

Those who prefer to donate online can visit lucascountydogs.com to find the agency’s Pet Food Pantry wish list.
