Even with roundabout defeated, Old Orchard residents weary of potential traffic changes

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – After plans to install a roundabout at the intersection of Kenwood and Secor were scrapped, the push to improve traffic on the busy corridor is still leaving residents uneasy.

The city of Toledo wants to add a median and U-turn lanes next spring, but some in the Old Orchard neighborhood still aren’t sure.

“We are really interested in some of the details,” Ben Burghart said. “We have heard bits and pieces, some of the conversations we have had with public officials have been a little bit vague on what exactly the dimensions are on these changes.”

Burghart lives in Old Orchard with his wife and child, and along with other residents, is pushing city officials to give them more details.

“Also with the extreme amount of property that they’re going to take from us, we’re losing all of our front yard that we have maintained for 27 years.”

The group will present a plan of their own at evening town hall meetings hosted by councilperson Sam Melden.
