Bowling Green voters approve income tax increase to fund new fire stations

Unofficial results show the 0.15% income tax levy passing 68% to 32%; the increase will fund two new fire stations and public safety upgrades.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Voters in Bowling Green have approved a 0.15% increase in the city’s income tax to fund construction of two new fire stations and modernize public safety facilities. Unofficial results show the measure passing 68% to 32%.

The increase raises Bowling Green’s income tax rate from 2% to 2.15% and is expected to cost a household earning $50,000 about $75 more per year. City officials said the new funding will support construction of a downtown headquarters and a second station on the city’s east side, along with updated fire and EMS equipment.

Supporters said the levy is essential to maintain 4-minute emergency response times across the city. Opponents raised concerns about tax burden and long-term capital costs.

The measure requires a simple majority to pass. Results remain unofficial until certified by the Wood County Board of Elections.
